I have a middle class income and do my taxes with the help of a tax program. 2 years ago my Kansas tax due divided by my Federal tax due was 25%. This year it is 53%. Are others seeing this kind of a huge change? I would normally have about $14,000 in itemized deductions. With the new tax change I of course got to take the $25,000 Fed. standard deduction for an $11,000 increase in deduction lowering my Fed tax. But Kansas it you take the Fed st. ded. you have to take the KS st. ded which for me is only $8,200. So that is why my Kansas went up. I googled and didn't find anything talking about this. I assume this is hitting a lot of Kansans. OK this is a WAG, but if there are 900,000 individual Kansas tax forms and 1/3 would in the past use the itemized deduction and a $350 increase in Kansas tax due would result would be the state collecting $105,000,000 more dollars. I am sure it will be put to GOOD USE.
