How do you feel about what baseball analysts in the media and prospect rankings have to say about MLB prospects versus how teams draft and presumably have their draft boards set up? In the MLB draft, outside the first round or even just the first half of the first round, there often seems to be a large gap between how the two groups have players rated. There is often even a large gap in how organizations within the same groups rank players. For example, Baseball America may have a player ranked 100th overall but a team may draft the player at 50. Another example may have Baseball America ranking a player at 100 while Bleacher Report has the same player ranked much higher or much lower.

MLB teams obviously have much more to take into consideration when setting up their draft boards, such as how willing each player is to sign a contract or how much money a team can afford to spend in certain areas of the draft. They also have more resources available to them that allows them to know more about each player than any analyst or website could ever know, such as a player's confidence level or work ethic. So I guess I am mostly curious about evaluations purely based on talent and what can be seen on the field.

Does anyone have any takes or opinions on this topic?
