Also: “The university’s five merit-based scholarships, ranging from $8,000 to $16,000 per-year for out-of-state students and $1,000 to $5,000 per-year for in-state students, will be based entirely on high school GPA.”
1. IMO this whole movement away from standardized testing is a a huge overreaction to some real, but more “perceived” lack of fairness/equality amongst students.
2. Test will never be perfect, but using GPA as the sole metric for merit-based scholarships is insane. As someone who graduated from a small rural KS HS with only a handful of weighted-courses, how can you compare a kid with a 3.95 from one HS to another with a 4.4 who had the opportunity to take several more weighted courses? This is where standardized testing has the ability to create a level playing field to compare students from high schools with vastly different levels of difficulty and teaching, among other factors.
*end rant*
