OT: Mt. Rushmore

Another travel question for the board. In visiting Mt. Rushmore is it possible to simply drive the highway and see the sculpture without parking and stopping at the visitor center, information center, etc. Do you need any type of reservation, ticket, etc. or can you simply plan to drive through? Visit will be late September. Thanks.
