Good morning. I pray all is well with you and yours. Many of you have asked to be updated frm time to time regarding my daughter, Kira. As we are approaching one of the treatment milestones, I wanted to take this opportunity to do that.
On Wednesday afternoon we met with one of the doctors and the surgeon to go over the MRI results from Monday. There hasn't been any progression with the cancer, which is really good. Regarding the main tumor, there was some shrinkage, however not as much as was hoped for. We are still moving forward with surgery, however. That, I am grateful for. Any step forward is welcome.
THE surgery will be on 2/7. It'll be a long one as they remove as much of the main tumor as possible piece by piece. We were told to expect 10+ hours. She'll have a hospital stay of 7-10 days afterwards.
The surgeon did go over the imaging with us and the tumor is pressing down on her left kidney pretty good. There is a chance she may lose the kidney. We know she can live a long life on one kidney, however we'd rather her not lose any organs.
She is well aware of everything that is going on. I've learned how smart and strong she is. She is able to comprehend things no 5 year old should ever even come close to knowing. She has been a trooper. She is nervous, scared even, but she understands the treatment and is doing it bravely. I'm amazed by her resolve. She is a fighter.
We've been assured that she is in good hands and we are remaining confident. I'd be lying if I said this was easy though. Our confidence is in God.
Thank you all for your prayers, thoughts and well wishes.
