When I listen to the talking heads discuss OU & Okie State, they almost make it seem like both teams return all of their starters… far from it.

OU
:
I won’t argue with the logic that until someone knocks OU off the Big 12 podium, the Sooners are still the team to beat in the Big 12.

OU bring backs a very dynamic QB (Mayfield), who I’m sure will be a pre-season favorite for the Heisman.
Of course, OU has the type of program that typically reloads versus rebuilds… that said, OU has some talented players to replace from last season.

Perine and Mixon were a 2 headed monster at RB and Westbrook made big plays.
Westbrook racked up 1,524 receiving yards and 17 receiving TDs.
#2 Receiver with just over 500 yards = Mixon.

Simply put, outside of Mayfield, all of OU”s star power must be replaced on offense from a season ago. The good news for Mayfield, the sooners only have to replace one starting O-lineman from a year ago.

Defensively, Like K-State, OU has to replace their top tackler from 2016.
OU needs to replace 2 starters on the d-line (1 part-time & 1 full time starter).
OU had a D-lineman leave early for the NFL (the sap was not drafted).
OU’s returning defensive lineman only account for 10 starts last season (6 + 4).
OU loses their best DB & LB from a season ago as well.

Okie State
:
The Pokes have to replace two starting D-Backs from a season ago, two starting D-lineman (Taylor Vincent left early for the NFL), and two starting LBs.
In summary, 6 of 11 starters on defense have to be replaced.

Offensively, Okie State is a lot like K-State, return almost everyone.
Okie State might have the most dynamic returning receiver in the Big 12 in James Washington (1,380 yards – 10 TDs last season).
Mason Rudolph is a top notch throwing QB, who might receive some Heisman hype as well.

The Pokes lost their #3 Wide Receiver from last season.
The Pokes also have to replace two starting O-lineman (well, one had 7 starts last season) and their starting Tight-end, Blake Jarvin.

In short, Okie State has more to replace on defense and a tad more to replace on offense in comparison to K-State.

IMO, OU & Okie State are clearly the two biggest hurdles for K-State to clear in 2017.
#3 is not even close. You can call me a purple koolaid slammer, but I like K-State's chances.

GO STATE !
