I admit ... I was wrong. I thought this program was close ... not just this season, necessarily, but in general. Close to taking some strides forward toward solidifying the program's foundation.

With massive support from the community (again) ...
With legit interest building into a couple of big recruiting weekends ...
With a "culture" overhaul ...
With their backs against the wall after some tough but understandable losses ...

This team went out, took aim, and shot itself right in the d***.

Self-inflicted wounds are the worst anyways, but to be so awful with so much on the line, and be so seemingly nonchalant or unable to scrounge up any sense of urgency in doing so... I don't get it. Truly. I don't get how a coaching staff with at least some championship-level pedigree to it can't produce tangible things like assignment-sound, fundamentals-based, mostly-penalty-free football this far into a season and tenure. Never mind the lackluster feel.

I wasn't ready for Saturday.

I expected sound, competitive, excited football because how could you not given the circumstance and environment. Instead, I got a performance fit for a Jayhawk. Sweet.
