Great discussion of the men's basketball team and HCBW. Very fair assessment and I believe accurate assessment. Great discussion of the bowl game and the need to keep the streak going and the fact that they earned their way there. Have some differing thoughts on HCBS and his recruitment of quality people vs. highly rated football players. I believe that he does go after quality players but sometimes there is simply not a fit and he doesn't worry about it. Incidentally, never underestimate the value of players who have character. They can compete for a Big XII title without having 4 stars after their name.
Because of this, HCBS, better than anyone, takes his high character players and makes lemonade out of lemons. I also don't think he'll stay too long. He's still an exceptional coach and continues to build legacies in players, former players, assistant coaches, etc... all of whom become candidates to either replace him or come in as assistant coaches someday. I also believe that the idea of coaching a top notch set of QBs like he'll get next year really excites him and I think we'll see improved results a year from now. If we don't go 8-4, I'd be surprised and I could easily see him retiring at the end of next year on a high note after attaining 200 wins. Program in good (maybe not great but good) shape, waters calmed, and foundation re-laid. Just my opinion. I hadn't listened to one of your podcasts for awhile and found this one to be just terrific! Thanks for doing it.
