Was told today that St. Thomas Aquinas offensive lineman Tom Killilea has been offered a preferred walk-on opportunity at K-State. Given the lack of scholarships available to go around, both with K-State and KU it seems, these PWO opportunities are pretty coveted in this recruiting cycle for local kids who many other years would already have official offers by now.
The senior is a 6'6", 270-pound prospect who I really like as an in-state product. He was hurt early on in the year, but came back and finished strong. Great frame that you can put another 30-pounds on, long arms, and nimble feet -- not to mention one of the nicest, brightest kids you'll come across in this class that I've spoken to. Good run blocker (you have to be when you play for Randy Dreiling), but he'd need to touch up his pass blocking a tad. He's the type who would take coaching well though, so that could come quickly. As a player, I'd say he reminds me a little of Nick Stringer.
Tom tells me he puts the PWO spot at K-State among his "Top 3", joining official scholarship offers from South Dakota State and New Mexico at the top. Stay tuned.
