Can someone explain to me why, in this world of specialization of positions, that punters at all levels have gone away from directional punting to the "coffin corner" that used to be the common pooch punt. Ray Guy should be hired as a kicking coach to teach kids that with their great aim, they should be kicking to a point at the sideline. Two good things about that versus the pooch is there is virtually no danger of a run back and you're not relying on which point of the ball hits the turf. I never see a punter aim at the sideline and I just don't get it. Time after time 5 guys scramble around trying to find, bat, control and down the ball without it crossing the goal line. I'm willing to bet that most of those same kickers can put the ball between the 20 and the goal 90% of the time from midfield. I guess there a great power that believes that is not so, because without a fair catch, i'd be willing to bet 75% of balls landing inside the 10 yd line make it to the end zone. Oh well...we're not alone on abandoning this approach to the pooch punt.
