If Ertz can't go... here's another vote for Delton.
Jessie Ertz appears to be a classic example of an over hyped player.
In most cases, player hype comes from overzealous fans.
In Jessie’s case, the hype actually started with his teammates.
I will admit that JE was starting to do some good things against OU before he was injured.
I also believe Jessie still has not gotten over his knee from a mental standpoint. He runs timid.
Not until JE breaks into the open, do we see the second gear that we’ve heard so much about.
There are two questions concerning JE.
Will Jessie continue to get better? I believe so.
Perhaps a bigger question: can Jessie stay healthy? I’m not so sure.
So if Jessie cannot go, apparently the CATS will go with Joe Hubener.
Here’s the deal with Bazooka Joe, he looks good one play and no so much the next.
On the 4th & 2 play when Joe threw the ball into the dirt (not even close), I was screaming for Delton.
Joe threw a couple of nice passes in the OU game, but he also threw some bad passes, including one that should have been picked off. Again, he looks good one play and not so much the next.
Joe still struggles with the simple pass down the line of scrimmage to the boundary.
Joe is a competitor, his lack of success is not from a lack of effort or “want to”. He is what he is.
We’ve only seen Delton briefly in mop-up duty this season. Very small sample size.
Of course I don’t know for sure, but I’m going to guess that Alex is a better running QB that Joe (perhaps, much better).
Is Alex is a better passing QB than Joe? Not enough data to make a judgement, but I’m guessing there isn’t a wide margin. Who knows, Alex might surprise us with solid passing.
Where Joe has a hand up on Alex is obviously game time experience.
Why didn’t Delton play the last two series against OU, when the game was basically over ???????
Bottom line: “IF” JE can’t go, I don’t know how Alex will do at QB, but I sure as heck would like to find out.
Side Note: I have not heard hardly anything about Skylar Thompson. One would obviously conclude that’s he not ready… and with the season half-over, he’s not an option. But it’s interesting that Texas is starting a True Freshman at QB. I believe the Texas QB was on campus for spring ball like Skylar. Both were 4 star rated dual threat QBs, about the same size. The Texas QB was ranked 5 spots higher on the dual threat QB list (# 5 versus #10). Maybe I missed it, but has anyone heard anything about Skylar? In Spring Ball it seems like Snyder made a positive comment about him, but that’s about it.
GO STATE !
