We've a player who has had brain surgery. I wouldn't have wanted to be the Doc who made the decision to let him play, but for discussion:

Read a couple of weeks ago that researchers have found a marker in blood from brain trauma patients that appears in the blood almost immediately. Goal is to develop a "bedside/field side" instrument that would be able to look at a small amount of blood and quickly determine if the blood brain barrier had been injured. That would make the decision to play much more scientific than the present routine. Crash Ekler (sp?) had many of those mental tests. Remarked: It's always Saturday. We're playing the team listed on the scoreboard, etc...

How do you think players and coaches will view this progress? I'm betting that players want to play...damn the future. NFL owners want them to play and will pay later.......
