Each conf team has played two games. Some have stepped up to face quality opponents while some are easing their way in. And some tripped and face planted before the season started.
1) OU - their win vs Akron was pedestrian, but that victory at Tenn was impressive. Easily the best noncon win of any team in the league. Keep playing like they did in the 4th qtr and OU may find themselves in the playoff.
2) TCU - their win at Minnesota was quality and they destroyed their FCS opponent. That late Nov tilt in Norman looks like it could be incredible. I do worry a little about their injury situation.
3) BU - their offense looks deadly, their defense looks sad. To win games they will have to out score opponents. Fortunately for them, they appear to have the horses on offense to do just that.
4) KSU - we haven't played anyone yet, but we have taken care of business in workman-like fashion. Surrendering a total of 3 points so far (and it was a 51-yd FG) is nice, no matter the level of opposition. The offense will need to continue making big strides.
5) WVU - I haven't seen them play. Like us, their schedule has been crap so far, but they're handling their business. Maryland does does not look like a threat so they should be easily 3-0 going into league play.
6) OSU - like us, they haven't played anyone worthwhile but they've taken care of business. It will be interesting to see how they handle UTSA next week. Transitive scores may not mean a lot, but we may be able to draw some conclusions.
7) TT - their offense looks dangerous while their defense looks pitiful. Until Kingsbury proves he's a good coach, I'm not going to give them the benefit of the doubt. However, winning at Arky next week would be a feather in his cap.
8) UT - they got humiliated by Notre Dame and had a ho-hum performance vs Rice. Whatever Strong is trying to do, it isn't working yet. I just wish we played them in BSFS instead of Austin this year.
9) ISU - they're not last because of Kansas, but they appear to suck as much as expected. They're the type of team that will pull off an improbable upset but still fall well short of bowl eligibility.
10) KU - duh. They have nothing on defense, their QB is terrible and they have zero depth. Barring a huge upset, they're going to finish with the big goose egg in the win column. Side note: per stassen.com, KU started the year with 598 losses all time. I would like to officially welcome them to the 600-loss club. Here's hoping they see #610 on Thanksgiving weekend.
