We played well defensively and so did West Virginia. Across the board they were absolutely a more talented team at virtually every position, especially on offense. The vast difference at the skill positions was night and day. QB, RB, WR, O-Line, West Virginia simply was athletically superior and that is to their credit.
And that's why watching K-State squander away a game like this is so painful in the broader context of bowl eligibility.
The reality is West Virginia won because they have better players and they were better coached yesterday. In the aftermath we heard the old company line about how we simply did not capitalize. The tale of the tape is in the personnel. Top to bottom, we are simply a vastly inferior offensive unit to West Virginia (and majority of the Big12 outside if KU and Iowa State), we have a QB that can't complete a forward pass, and an offensive coordinator that insists on making him a pocket passer. The other major problem is that the talent we actually do have sits on the bench while pedestrian players like Charles Jones do absolutely nothing of major impact while in the game.
This isn't about "capitalization" and "execution" and it's time we get real about the issues and stop regurgitating this stupid fallacy.
The REALITY is this is a team that is going to fight for bowl eligibility all season, contrary to all the silly talk about K-State making a run at the Big12 title. This isn't a title contending team, this is a team that is going to be in tight games all season and lucky to win 6-7 games. And the sooner some people accept that the better.
