I think the most recent appropriate comparison to use is Matt Campbell.
Matt was a good MAC coach but never broke the 10 win plateau. He was also 35 at the time of the hire. Basically, he was a walking billboard of negative recruiting.
He took over and only had 6 commitments, despite signing day being 2.5 months away.. and much like ck2, had to scramble a class. He got 1 5.8 and 1 5.7 dude, but in general, I think both ck2 and Matt did well
For the next class, by April 14, Matt had 6 dudes committed. Including 2 5.7 guys and had 3 in state guys. By the end of April he has 8. And by the end of June, he had 10.
I think this tells us that recruits dont need to wait and see OR.. you can counter it..... and so, I think it's not only ok, but probably to correct to have concerns
