It was well known that Dean wanted his guy (Guthrie) to follow in his footsteps. Boosters very much opposed. So what does Dean do? Retire just 1 or 2 months before the next season started. Guess what? Left with no/little choice, Guthrie got the job.
Wouldn’t be overly surprised to see Bill retire next August 1. Then sonny gets the gig, at least on an interim basis. PERHAPS this is the best scenario, Sean gets a year to prove he is up to the task (or not). Geez, what a mess.
No one worth their salt is going to step in that position if Bill has any real influence/presence in the ath dept post-retirement (stating the obvious).
