Have to give him some credit for helping to set the tone last night. A lot of takes on him the last few weeks about how he would be detrimental to the team's overall success, how he takes away from McGurl and Diarra, needs to be pushed out, no reason to give him an offseason to get healthy/mesh with new style, etc.
vs. Creighton:
38 minutes - Tied for most on the team with Brown
11 points - Third most on the team
4 rebounds - Tied for third most on the team
3 assists - Tied for most on the team
NCAA tourney the last two years...obviously Brown >>> Stokes but for comparison purposes:
Stokes: 34 min/game, 12.6 ppg, 3 reb/game, 2.3 assists/game
Brown: 36 min/game, 13 ppg, 4.6 reb/game, 2.3 assists/game
There are plenty of minutes and a role for Stokes/experienced guard on this NCAA team and next years team. IMHO he's still a better option for next years team than anyone else we could possibly add to next years team.
Hopefully he follows up a nice game vs. Creighton with another solid game vs. UMBC. Having him finish the season on a high note(along with McGurl and Diarra) going into the offseason is something we should all want if we want to have depth needed compete for conference championship and to hit the lofty expectations and goals many fans are setting for next season.
