Trend! Several years ago they used 3 closers for the 7th, 8th and 9th innings to close out games, remember HDH? Soon other teams picked up on the idea and today most teams use it.
So what is the new trend they are pioneering? Well other teams began shifts due to knowledge of where each batter hits the ball. the Royals were late to this and then adopted the idea. Well today with the call up of Nicky Lopez they are playing 3 short stops in their infield. They are all quick with excellent arms. I have been surprised with how well Dozier moves when fielding balls in the middle of the diamond. He is exceptionally agile for a big man! Mondesi and lopez are the size you would normally see at those positions. Can you mention other teams doing the same thing?
