So last week in the OU/O-State game there was an interception play that also got flagged for Targeting...the official stated on the filed that the Targeting occured after the INT..thus effectively eliminating the possibility of OSU getting the INT overturned if the targeting was confirmed because the statement the official made on the field was not reviewable. Yet, during reviewing the the targeting portion of the sequence it became very clear that the Targeting did occur before the INT...so in a weird twist, a rule was announced that allows for officials to correct an egregious mistake, review and correct an un-reviewable and un-challengable call. Now I am not disagreeing that the mistake was made..because the Original call was 100% wrong.
Fast forward to our game today, the "missed filed goal"...The kick looked good to me at the game. On the post game show Snyder mentioned that the officials told him that the Field Goal kick was not reviewable because the ball was above the goal posts, to which Snyder replied he would have to look up the rule as he was not aware of that.
Am I alone in finding this beyond ridiculous if true? And wouldn't the egregious mistake rule apply here? Except since you can't review it how do you become aware of it? Seems like complete hypocrisy when comparing it with the play last week. I haven't seen the replay from the TV recording yet...so Maybe on TV the miss is clear, but the explanation given to Bill seems like nonsense if you really cant review a scoring play such as a filed goal try. Am I crazy?
