i can't sleep so I went back and looked at the play selection in the second half.
In our first four drives of the second half we scored zero points and gave up a pick six. The game was essentially lost in that stretch as went from being up 18 to up four in short order. During this stretch we led by two scores each time we had the ball but we had a total of only three called running plays and eleven passes with one pass play where joe scrambled for a yard. Of the eleven passes we completed one. Which means we completed as many to them as we did to our own guys.
On the 5th drive after essentially blowing the lead we called 10 straight running plays and scored a TD to re gain our two score lead. The next drive we got the ball we were up five and called three straight passes and punted. That would be the last time we had the ball with the lead.
So in summary we were unsussessful on five of our first six drives with the lead in the second half. During those five unsussessful drives we called three running plays and 15 pass plays. Of the 15 pass plays we actually threw it 14 times and completed two of them. so the idea that we abandoned the run is very real and very unexplainable. we were running the ball with success and being very unsuccessful in the pass game. Our wr corp was depleted due to injury and our main target seemed to be a true freshman grey shrt who caught his first career pass to tonight. I hate to beat a dead horse but it just makes no sense on any level and it has me sick. It's unexplainable and inexcusable game management by the coaching staff that absolutely gave away the game.
