So how DO the owners of these forums make money?

I assume the forum owners make more money based on memberships sold. Do the owners (local people) actually own something that has monetary value? Can they sell the site to someone else? Did Fitz own the site before and sell it? Did he have to buy the 24/7 site? If he doesn't get many subscriptions does he lose his shorts? At what point does D Scott realize he made a mistake and comes back here? Does Fitz just slowly disappear and become pointless?
