Watched most of the FHSU game. A few minutes of ESU. Some thoughts:
1). Love Austin Budke. He reminds me of Spradling in that he's a couple inches short and a 1/2 step slow, but always in the right spot and rarely makes mistakes. Unfortunately, he plays a position where his size and athleticism will be exposed 100 x's more than Will. He has a definite roll on this squad and can help. But if he plays 26 min a game like he did Friday, I'm not sure that's good. Maybe he'll be like Evan Wessel from WSUast year. An undersized 4 who can shoot it and knows how to use his body. We'll see, but at a minimum, he plays his ass off and we need that.
2). Wes is improved. This is the Wes we should have seen last year and who we see this year should be even better. But even though he's lost a year, I'm happy to see improvement.
3). Dean Wade is going to be really good. His body is thicker than I expected and his stroke is really pure. Need him to catch up mentally and start developing a dominant attitude. I'm hoping for a lot of Kyle Singler type game from him.
4). We appear to be more athletic. And I think that's because we are more assertive. Edwards needs to just go to the rim and try to dunk it every time. He is better and so is Wes. Brown and others will come along. Hurt still appears to be lost. He needs to make quicker decisions. Make a move or kick it out. But do t hold it and let others come to you. Not a good enough athlete to allow that to happen. But there is skill and size there. Just needs to find himself and use it.
That's all for now. Will be interested in seeing more against better teams.
