This Wildcat team played with heart and smarts the first 5 games. We knew this would be a rebuilding year and there were plenty of glitches and wtf moments in those earlier games, but it was apparent that the Cats were working hard and playing smart. The OSU game and the TCU game (at least the first half of the latter) demonstrated the characteristics of a typical Bill Snyder-coached team -- outschemed the other team, kept working, played above their talents, took advantage of any breaks they got, displayed high FBIQ.
Then suddenly at halftime of the TCU game, it's like somebody threw a switch and the Wildcats became a different team. Play calling became incomprehensible. When play calling didn't work, the Cats doubled down and tried even more of the same.
We maybe don't have the most talented players in the country, but in the past we've taken advantage of the skills, talent and work ethic our players have. Game plans and play calling have complemented the talent on the field. That is NOT what I've seen change in the last game and a half.
So why is that? Help me understand what's happened. Is the quality of the opposition in the Big 12 so much greater than the opponents earlier in the year? Have our players regressed? Have the coaches lost their minds? Or a combination? Or maybe this is an alternate universe.
I am stunned and cannot believe LCBS is in charge. What's going on?
