I've linked Andy Katz's and Rick Reid's ESPN radio podcast of "Capital Games". They talk about all different types of athletic topics. This one is about the BYU-LGBT issue that just came up and how it might affect BYU's invite. They also delve into how these types of issues are becoming more common across the nation and how are they being dealt with.
In this discussion they are talking to a former AD of BYU. He was the AD there from late 90's to 2005 and since then has been working in the governor's office in Utah so I'm guessing this is someone that is in the know on things.
We have all heard the stories of how Baylor was not going to be part of the original Big 12 membership and how Ann Richards, then governor of Texas and a Baylor alum used political weight to get Baylor in. Well this guy says that Texas Tech was also not part of the original Big 12 idea and that BYU was. Said that the folks back then were only interested UT and TAMU. BYU was going to be team #11 and he didn't say who team #12 was suppose to be.
If you remember, not only was Baylor grad Richards the governor at that time but the president of the Texas state legislature at the time was a Tech grad.
It would explain a lot on why both of those schools have been UT lap dogs from day one. But, like I said, who knows what level of truth there is in this because I have never heard this before from any of the other "players" in the game back then. Wefald would surely had said something about this in his books consider how much he likes to talk about this stuff. Same with Donnie Duncan, the former AD at OU that was the leader in this whole thing.
So.... take it FWIW
