I've actually been keeping tabs on this for a number of years now as it pertains to a few questions I've had regarding MBB scheduling and it's effect on fan attendance.
I'm trying to understand why we don't have HOME (in Bramlage) basketball games on SATURDAYS in December. Not just this December, but ANY December! In researching the last 7 seasons, we have only had TWO Saturday games in that time. The calendar in that same time period has provided 30 Saturdays for games.
Now, with Football playing a few games on the first Saturdays of December a few times (i.e. this season), I can understand. But only once in that time period did Christmas fall on a Saturday.
So here are my questions:
1. What is the reasoning in this?
2. Why are we having so many Sunday games, and competing against the NFL, when there is nothing to compete against on December Saturdays?
2B. Is this because of FOX Sports TV deal requiring Sunday content?
3. Why is every game against a "decent" opponent played in Wichita/KC instead of Bramlage?
These are all direct questions that John Currie has the answers to. I firmly believe that this is one of the reasons why our attendance is always so lousy until January. People WANT to watch the NFL instead of a hoops game against crappy competition, let alone drive from Wichita/KC to do so.
Here is a breakdown of Saturdays in December for the last several years (1st number is home games played that month, 2nd number is how many Saturdays were in that given month)
Dec. 2010: 0/4
Dec. 2011: 1/5
Dec. 2012: 1/5 *Last known HOME Saturday Dec. game against UMKC
Dec. 2013: 0/4
Dec. 2014: 0/4
Dec. 2015: 0/4
Dec. 2016: 0/4
As a season ticket holder, this personally pisses me the f**k off. I'd love to see a media member ask the reasoning for this.
