-Thoughts on Tim Beckman firing? Firing "with cause" and right before season makes in look more legit....and saves athletic dept. money. AD probably wanted to get out of contract anyway, but can do so cheaper handling it this way.
-KK: I think college football players are now the most powerful athletes of any right now (gives VT example of AD over-ruling Frank Beamer). Don't players have too much power now? Shouldn't they be learning about team work, discipline, etc? Stan: has become so legalistic. Rules are set forth in scholarship. Legal binding agreement. So, Beemer rules would of had to be in that signed contract. Lawyers got a hold of.....and didn't like what they saw. Some of what's changing is good (limiting contact, concussions, etc.), but some of which is just lawyers taking things too far. But, coaches still have "playing time" as the ultimate leverage.
-End of the day, winning still trumps everything. Beckman would still be coaching if he had winning record.
-Each recruiting class has around 10 of the 25 signed that don't ever play and/or contribute. That's 40 total on your roster who are not playing and probably a little disgruntled. Now, you can't pull scholarships. So, keeping everyone on same page and avoiding chemistry issues are going to get even worse.
-Coaching football is getting tougher. Coaching football is tough enough, but taking away the "boot-camp" mentality of instilling discipline makes managing 125 players very difficult.
-Will Snyder announce Ertz as QB sooner than next Tuesday's news conference? Probably not. Who do you think will be announced starter? Ertz....75% chance. Jesse won the job in the spring and, by all accounts, has kept it. Bill waits because you just never know what might happen. Kind of like having his QB run the play clock down to final seconds before choosing the play with best chance of being successful.
