I'll preface this post by saying I do not believe we will beat Stanford on Friday night, September 2nd. But in the true spirit of Lloyd Christmas; 'So you're telling me there's a chance'...here are 4 reasons we may have a chance:
1) First games are always unpredictable. Lou Holtz used to say the two games he never knew what to expect were the first game and the last game of the year.
2) Stanford will be replacing a four year starter at quarterback. Odds are it will be true sophomore Keller Chryst. Chryst some some garbage time as a true freshman last year. He was the nation's #1 ranked pro passing prospect out of high school. After four years of a duel threat Hogan, can Stanford adjust to a pure drop back passer in the first game of the year?
3) Stanford loses it's Center. Left Guard and Left Tackle. In the past, the Cardinal have just been a plug and play OL team with tremendous depth. But again, it's a first game.
4) The Cardinal loses both Defensive Ends off a unit that was down (numbers wise) substantially last year from 2014. Will we be able to pass the ball?
I wish our one P5 out of conference game was against someone else but if you're going to play a pre-season top 10 team with the pre season Heisman favorite, better to play them first.
