that was not even close to "putting it all together"...(long)

...yet we beat a mid-level SEC team in their building. Over 3 non-con games, we've AVERAGED covering the spread by 17.66666666666667, which translates to seventeen and two-thirds. Taking KSU every week is a solid handicapping move this season. Vegas will still take a while to catch up.
  • Yes, I think we benefited from Tommy Stevens being dinged up, but a lot of the very friendly Miss St fans used the lack of their 2 suspended players as an excuse after the game. I let them know we played without our best DE and a starting CB
  • Btw, after re-watching, on most of those air-mailed throws by Stevens, the WR was not even remotely open, great coverage...really when it came to wide open passes that were missed and bad drops, both teams were about even...they'll be a game where Skylar hits everything, sort of like he did in Stillwater a couple years ago...but yesterday was not that game...in terms of "managing the game"? he was nails
  • Frantz was right, it was a neutral zone infraction
  • I'll assume it was a "break tendency" move, but I don't like Gill on the jet sweep...not explosive enough...I guess it can't be Knowles, Brown (or possibly Youngblood?) every time
  • You might think Garrett Shrader is a warrior to go airborne like that to try and get the first down, but really he was just trying to build his social media brand...which he succeeded in doing
  • Seriously, though, Shrader is talented, but he was a little unconscious on that first drive, felt if he kept that up we'd have to tip our cap, but he didn't...not surprisingly
  • I like Logan Long as a situational jumbo FB, but it didn't work out so well against Miss St, will be curious to see how it works in conference play
  • 30 forgivers for Wayne Jones, but played well besides that...does the end-of-half TD bomb happen without Jones' 2nd penalty? Very unlikely...
  • Kevion McGee is not a drop-off from Neil, in fact I think he is as good or better of a coverage guy...and how about Darreyl Patterson making some plays in clutch time?
  • I liked the post-play chippy-ness and scrapping...it was like the SEC team thought they'd intimidate us, don't think so
  • Uh...no, that was NOT targeting by Jahron McPherson
  • What was up with the Miss St center, who is a potential all-conference player? Kept feeling like he would snap one over the QB's head at some point. Lots of high snaps.
  • Seems like Brock Monty either gets a hand on, or comes extremely close to getting a hand on, 50% of the other team's punts...one sign of a good team is guys - who don't get playing time outside of special teams - enthusiastically producing on special teams...and Monty does...seems like Eric Gallon II has found that niche on coverage teams as well
  • This guy sitting a few seats behind me was all decked out in Mizzou gear. I told him my brother-in-law went to Mizzou...then I said well, actually umm-sul (UMSL, which is Univ of Missouri-St Louis) and he said "oh, he went to SLU?" I guess Mizzou fans are idiots everywhere, not just in Missouri
  • The way Daniel Green mentally willed that Tommy Stevens drop into his hands was amazing...telekinesis, y'all...give him the sledgehammer so he can pound the stone...seriously though, the kid is a stud
  • Gilbert is a bad ass...haven't seen that kind of leg drive since Sproles dragged Nubb into the endzone in 2003
  • Klieman runs what, 4.7? 4.8? At least when he's motivated to not get a delay of game!
  • Someone walks up to you at 10:55 am Saturday morning and sez "you don't have to believe me, but I can see the future. I will give you one stat from today's game - MSU will have 33:05 in time of possession, and KSU will have 26:55 in time of possession...who wins?" What would your answer have been? I woulda guessed Miss St
  • I've always felt Knowles was a guy who wasn't going to be caught from behind, even against SEC speed...was really nice to have that confirmed
  • A great joy when watching college football is to watch an offensive coordinator completely torch a team on a play after setting the other team up all game, which is what happened when Skylar executed two great fakes and threw to a wide-open Schoen on that final TD
  • I feel like we smashed the cave-in/self-destruct/beat yourself button in that game - despite many opportunities to revert to old behavior - and that is very encouraging
  • At brunch this morning, my buddy and I went thru the top 10 teams outside the top 25, then thru 11-25 of the top 25, and honestly a lot of them I felt we'd have a 50/50 shot at beating...is it just me or are there a lot of mediocre or worse college football teams this season (realize we are only 3 weeks in)? Feels like women's college basketball where you have a few unbeatables, then everyone else. But hey, the real stuff comes in November.
