the #1 characteristic of successful coaches, in my view, is fortitude...

Yes, you need a ton of other skills, but if you have those skills and don't have fortitude, you will fail. Fortitude, which I will loosely define as conviction/not panicking, is a must, literally all great coaches have fortitude.

I'm a long-term thinker. I'm less concerned (Ls) or ecstatic (Ws) about a single game than I am about establishing a program that is consistently successful and sustainable. Obviously the coaches need to string together 3-4 recruiting classes.

I didn't see anything last night that leads me to believe a bunch of changes need to be made in the short-term. Our coaches should continue on with what they're doing - they should continue to plan to redhirt the guys who were on track to be redshirted, for example, and only deviate from that for the same reasons they might have before the loss (injury, guy emerged in practice, etc).

I do see the need for a few fairly minor tweaks in our offense, though really some of these things might already be in our offense, but just weren't in our game plan last night. We need to have some kind of QB running game, imho. I know those who didn't like Snyder running Ertz 15 times in a game won't like the sound of it, but that is not what I am proposing. We just need a Wildcat/QB run game to go to when the other team is stopping the run and therefore we need the extra blocker. It doesn't have to be a central mainstay. We need a zone read package (which we have used, albeit sparingly) for the sake of sheer offensive diversity, imho. I do think we need to continue using Holcombe in the Wildcat even if he is struggling to handle it. He's a RFr, it ain't always gonna be pretty. We are playing a lot of young or inexperienced guys, errors will happen.

We need to be better on special teams, imho. I sense a lack of emphasis there, perhaps I'm wrong but that's been my sense since Klieman was hired. You just don't hear the coaches talk about it that much. To me, special teams are an equalizer, if you are not a blue blood (and of course we are not), then you need to be really good in special teams. We've done our share of good things thru 4 games, but we have also been very inconsistent, imho. Blocking on returns was very mediocre last night, though blocking (and to some extent, tackling), was a struggle all night.

Okla St was 0-1 in conference play, coming home after tough road loss, and badly need a win. They seemed extremely focused and did not want to open the season 0-2, really seemed to have the physical upper hand from the get-go.
