I (like D Scott) was extremely frustrated with the lack of execution in the 2nd half and the lack of fans in the 2nd half so these comments are only on the 1st half. …
Ertz showed significant improvement last night. He has a nice burst on runs and was very accurate throwing it. He was 7 for 8 passing and would have been perfect if not for a drop from Zuber. I believe Ertz 40 yard run last night was longer than any run by a RB last year. He made a beautiful pass to Heath in the corner of the end zone that had little margin of error. They are developing a nice little chemistry. Looked like some of the passes we saw late against Stanford. I am not worried about Ertz from a passing or running ability perspective just hope he stays healthy. If he stays healthy, he is going to continue to get better and be a really good QB. The most recent example being Klein’s’ improvements in his passing from his JR year to SR year and how much better Jake got at running the ball.
I am glad that Delton came in the 1st half when score was only 28-0 or 21-0. Usually Snyder plays starting QB whole 1st half and 1st series of 3Q in blowouts before going to the backup. This move proved to be pretty smart getting him in for some reps with the game eventually getting called at half. Like I have said, Ertz will have up and downs like any 1st year QB but I am confident he will turn into a good QB. I have more doubts about him staying healthy than becoming a good QB. It was nice to see Delton pass. He had a couple of nice throws and a couple he would like to have back.
Barnes and Warmack simply make defenders miss that Jones can’t replicate. Barnes had a guy in the backfield on his first carry that he made miss. 2nd play Barnes was in he destroyed a guy on a block downfield. It has been a long time since we had a big back that could make people miss. Jones coming close to dropping the ball before he crossed the goal line hopefully reduces his carries going forward. Jones had a nice hole to run through in the first series but couldn’t get thru it fast enough and was tackled instead of having a big gain. This was Silmon’s best game of this season. He made a couple of guys miss and ran hard. Delton (threat of pass) or Barnes (better runner) should be in the Wildcat over Dimel. Frankly, it is embarrassing Dimel had almost twice as many carries (7) as Delton, Barnes and Warmack COMBINED (4). It’s like his dad is one of the coaches or something. ..
The freshman Olineman (Mitchell) got called for a penalty in the 2nd game and you have not seen much of him since with Ash taking his spot.

Reed had a nice pass breakup and an INT last week. Love his aggressiveness. He looks like he could be a ball hawk CB like Nigel Malone and Chapman. Malone and Chapman were not the fastest guys but were absolute ball hawks that had a significant number of INT’s. It can’t be said enough how nice it is having Barnett back. He prevents big runs from coming up so fast from his safety position to make plays. Adams is turning into a physical safety. The secondary’s future looks bright with three sophomores starting in Adams, Reed and Duke.
Lee was in a position to make a tackle a couple of times and got beat outside. I was hoping he would take the next step this year. Still early but so far he has been disappointing.
Wood has been a pleasant surprise this year. He has played really well and given us depth to rotate at DE with Willis and Walker. Willis got consistent pressure including the hit on the QB that led to the INT. Geary was manhandling his guy, which he should. He is just a hairy beast.
No question this D is more talented and better than last year. How good they are will be determined when they face more talented/explosive offenses in the Big 12.

Our backup up LB’s (Tanking, Couchman, Sullivan and Sizelove) were absolutely killing people on special teams. Fun to watch! We blocked a punt to follow up on a return for TD from last week. ST can make the difference in Big 12 play when we face more talented teams so hopefully this trend continues.
Completely unrelated, but I absolutely hate those cheating criminals at Baylor and hope the Cats kick the crap out of them but will settle for a W against those classless idiots.
