I understand the frustration. We had been saying that he is the most likely person to be the next head coach at Kansas State, and as heartbreaking as that is to hear now, it was true and he was.
They were deep in negotiations with him. That is the epitome of being the most likely person to be the next head coach. We didn't lead anyone down an incorrect path or feed you incorrect information. Wanted to clear that part up.
Why did he step away from the table? None of it is verified. But I will say that the two sides went as far as you can together in terms of coming to an agreement, and still be able to back out. There was very, very, very, very little left to be done.
There's been chatter about buyout language and other things being a possible hiccup. It is nothing that we can verify at this time. But a lot of our focus now will be on covering the coaching search as it continues to unfold.
