That was another ugly one. Now the Wildcats have dropped six in a row. Five in a row by double digits. Two in a row over 20+ points. 28 total turnovers is unacceptable (tied for sixth most in school history, and the most since 2002). 18 in the first half is unheard of.
As far as their record and how they are losing, this team is in a dark place. Two awful games in a row on both ends of the floor. They played slightly better on defense but I cannot overlook that West Virginia hadn't played a game in 14 days.
It is hard to believe, but the the team is still invested, which is good, but they continue to go the wrong direction. They are disgusted by these losses but they haven't fallen into apathy quite yet.
There are ten more chances before the Big 12 tournament for this team to prove they can put something, anything together. I still believe the best basketball from this team is still a week or two away with Pack fully back and others staying healthy. The scary thing is that I still doubt the best basketball for this team does much damage to any of the Big 12 opponents the rest of the way.
Iowa State game looks like it won't happen, there goes one possible win. They go to TCU near the end of February. They only lost by seven to the Horned Frogs the first time out, the second time I would lean towards a double digit loss in Fort Worth unless I see something between now and then to change that tune. Then the rest of the Big 12 is just way too tough to believe the Wildcats won't get blown out by the top seven in the league.
It may sound like I'm beating this drum too much, but Nijel Pack is going to help the offense when he gets back, but it still doesn't seem like it would be enough to even stay somewhat competitive, especially in the next matchup with Baylor on Wednesday.
