In another thread Mobcat posted a ridiculous stat that like 55 Power 5 schools had a losing record in the last decade....as if it were to be acceptable. What he fails to mention is that of those 55 programs....there is only one example of a school that retained the coach who had the losing record and then turned things back around. That would be Mike Brey at Notre Dame.
I should mention that there are a few coaches who had losing records in their first season taking over for something but then went on to have success. Those losing records really aren't on them as they built things afterwards. There are two programs who have a chance to do the same as Brey and that would be Michigan and Florida. Their losing records happened this year and we will see how they respond.
The bottom line is there is hardly any evidence that a coach can have a losing record at a power 5 school, once he has started to establish things and then turn it around to be a solid program that consistently goes to the tournament. Everyone else on the list either fired their coach, or is still flailing around with the same crappy coach that they had.
I get that many HOPE that Weber turns things around and think we will be better and he will write the ship. In the modern game there just isn't a ton of evidence that this will take place.
