Awe, Family Day or opening day of the football season. My parents took me to my first game in1977. I was hooked completely. Even though we had gravel parking lots, ate peanut butter sandwiches for our tailgate, left Topeka at 11:30 for a 1 o'clock kick off, and could stretch out in the stands. As I leave Topeka today, I thank my parents for teaching me that hard work pays off and that lesson is embodied by our Coach, the 16 principles he teaches, and by the players. I love wins more than losses like everybody but our program is more than that to me. It is nearly 40 years of memories, great memories whether we win or lose.
Wow, have we come a long way in facilities, expectations, and success. Thank you Mom and Dad for for taking me to all those games. It has been 18 years since Dad passed and 10 years ago today that Mom passed. RIP- EMAW forever.
