Despite what the critics may say, season two is quite good. In many ways it follows the formula established by James Ellroy in Black Dahlia, LA Confidential, and American Tabloid , involving civic corruption, murder, organized crime, and ethically challenged police. I am looking forward to the second episode. In some respects, for those familiar with Chinatown, it could be the third episode of that trilogy replacing freeway construction with that of high speed rail. Good stuff. I look forward to what other aficionados think about it too.
