I am in Portland visiting 1 yo GS and family, The USA indoor T&F championship was being held. For a $12 GA ticket I got to sit sit on the front row just across from the finish line. I could feel the wind as the runners passed and got to high five many of the champs on their victory lap.
I was a little disappointed in the men's field. There were few contested events and most of the winners did not turn in outstanding performances. The exception, of course, was the HJ. I wanted to see Erik Kynard defend his championship. The HJ pit was right in front of me. Unfortunately for me the HJ final was the day before. But Erik was the winner. A lady sitting beside me is supposed to send me a pic of the winning jump.
The woman's events were quite exciting. The first two finishes in the 60M were 1/100 sec apart and were the top two times in the world this year. Only 4 women have cleared 16' in the PV. Third place cleared it last month and the top 2 cleared it in the event. The HJ was being contested by the present vs the future. The 7 time USA champ and AR holder was defeated by a high school kid. She looked to be about 6"4, 130 pounds and is the daughter of QB Randall Cunningham. She set a world youth record but stopped before trying for the AR.
The World Championship is here next week.
