Conflicted over ideals that they really don't hold to, like free speech and freedom of religion and religious expression as well as the dogmatic attachment to the oppressed/oppressor meme that drives so much of the liberal ideology.
Throw in the multiculturalist component and the white oppressor vs all people of color angle and the whole cocktail imo is irrationally yet reflexively driving many liberals into the arms of a misogynistic, homophobic oppressor. At the very lease this cocktail creates a tacit acceptance of Islamic extremism .
