He shows his ability to score...even when it all comes off assists. Problem is, we need more than that from him, he is WAY too passive. He can put the ball on the floor, make post moves, etc. but he often doesn't initiates those things in an aggressive way himself. He passes up shots he should take and for stretches of the game completely disappears on the offensive end.
I listened recently to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar talk about Dwight Howard, said he is talented but not as good as he should be because basketball is a game where the most important muscle is the "one between your ears". While different in some respects, that is Dean's problem, he is a talented kid who struggles with confidence in himself....its a mental thing he needs to overcome, and the coaches need to find the right buttons to push.
Thing is, we need him to step up more in that sense because, as has been the case at ksu since time immemorial, we literally have no inside presence. We have two players to try and fill this role, one of whom is undersized and the other one is passive as can be and perimeter oriented ....way too much of the time.
