I never felt like Vandy had more talent than us. We looked like the team who should have won. If you were to ask me who has the better players, I would still say KSU.
Dimel is starting out this year like the last few years its seems. No rhyme, reason, or rhythm to what he's calling. Now, he ended last season calling terrific games. But I do remember some head scratchers to start the year. More square peg round hole again. He stuck with Barnes for too long and didn't stick with trying to establish the run game long enough. I realize the box was stacked, but it was stacked all night and we still had a decent night running the ball. Derek said pass to set up the run, but it appears we could have just run anyway had we gone with some different backs and run calls early.
We will improve. We will become more sound and disciplined. Those things will help all the other little things that went wrong tonight.
I hate saying things like this because it takes credit away from the opponent and comes off as a sore loser, but we lost the game more than Vandy won it. Drops and penalties and Dimel (see above).
And the WR. Not playing much the first two games for Heath and Pringle sure doesn't look good now. I realize it's revisionist history, but I'm sure more snaps and reps in live action would have only helped their performance against a P5 team.
This loss comes down to coaches, discipline and the WR.
50% Coaches (mainly Dimel)
30% WR
20% Discipline
If we've got the superior players, and we look like total dog shit and lose, it's on the coaches.
