K state had a watch party at Walk On's in West Wichita. Martavious Irving was in charge and did a great job. We had a row of tables on the patio and it could not have been any better. Martavious started things off by giving a short, inspirational speech and announced: "Avery Johnsons' parents are with us tonight." They were sitting right behind me and got a nice, enthusiastic cheer and welcome. I made the following observations: they are great people, they had a great time; they enjoyed talking to everyone, and, they were not bashful when it comes to cheering. You need to give his Father some room during a game, because when we scored he jumped up and ran around high five-ing everyone. After scores, we did the KSU cheer so loud, the patrons inside the restaurant probably thought they were at the stadium --------- maybe not that loud. Finally, I heard the golden words from his parents: "We cannot wait until next year. " On another note, Jamie and Joe Rheem are part owners in Walk ON's and I know they personally played a part in setting up the watch party. If you every run into them, please show them some appreciation.
