Weiser's bottom line was winning.
Unfortunately, Weiser's biggest adversary was the meddling of Jon Wefald.
Weiser did not want to give Jim Wooldridge another year.
But Wefald liked Jim and made Tim give Jim another year (that rhymed). Well, it ended up working out, because K-State hired Bobby Huggins a year later. But the point here = Wooldridge was given another year, when Jim shouldn't have been given another year (but again, it worked out).
A year later, as the story goes, Weiser caught Asbury on the way to the locker room after K-State lost in the Big 12 tourney, to tell him, YOU'RE FIRED. I liked Woolridge, he just couldn't get it done.
More meddling = Wefald pushed Ron Prince on Tim.
Wefald was blown away by the fast talking all hat - no cattle Ron Prince. After the hiring of Prince, Wefald finally agreed to not meddle in Weiser's job to handle the coaches (signed an agreement).
Then came the rub = Wefald wanted to give Prince a contract extension, Tim said no (for what). John said yes. Tim left K-State with a sweet going away package (the before mentioned agreement between Wefald & Tim... one of those secret agreements). And of course Krause came on board and gave Prince a new contract (a public contract -AND- a private contract ... lord-eee be).
Bob Krause was a loyal K-State fan and supporter, but he had no business being the AD. Rather Wefald knew about Prince's secret contract or if Krause acted on his own, we will likely never know. Wefald said publicly that he did not know, but I find it hard to believe that Krause would have acted completely on his own.
Then along came Madame Curry. Great job at raising funds for new buildings... but the little Napolean ran off Mad Frank and hired a coach that had just been fired.
Reportedly, Curry was also a dick to Snyder. For all of his faults, who knows if K-State would have the facilities they have today without Curry?? If you care about that kind of thing (I believe recruits do and apparently so do many alumni).
Here comes Mr Nice Guy - Gene Taylor. I question if Taylor will have the balls to fire Weber if K-State fails to make the tourney this year. Of if K-State makes the tourney and loses in the first round this year and repeats as much next year, yet again, will Gene have the balls to fire Weber.
I have a feeling if Tim Weiser was still at K-State, if K-State made the tourney this year, but lost in the first round, he would fire Bruce..ha ha. Because Tim would be tired of the trend of mediocrity.
As far as anything goes, had Tim still been here, he would have never hired Bruce in the first place.
I hope K-State wins on Saturday and punches their ticket for the NCAA tourney. In other words, I'm indirectly cheering for Bruce. And I also hope that K-State surprises me and makes some noise in the NCAA tourney. But as I have stated all season long, if K-State fails to make the NCAA tourney, Bruce should be fired (no discussion needed). Then again, Tim Weiser is not the AD.
GO STATE !
