I know, no one really cares how I feel about this, but I'll put this out there anyway, in case there are more people who think about this as I do. I really want Venables to replace Bill. My concern is timing--if Bill thinks he'll coach just one more year, but that means we miss on getting Venables, then I would prefer that Bill retire. This is NOT because I think Venables is an upgrade over Bill; it's because Venables is the guy I'd like to have take us beyond the Bill era, which will end relatively soon in any event. If Venables is a complete pipe dream, and we can hire Leavitt or someone else this year or next or the year after, then I am OK with Bill coaching another year or two. I can't imagine he'd go beyond that, but who knows.
