We all know LHCBS has always succeeded by getting ahead of everyone else with recruiting, scheduling, coaching or play calling tactics that have kept him one step ahead of the competition even with lesser talent.
I think the next step is to really dig in and develop an offense that uses 2 QBs on the field at the same time. Rather than subbing in and out, they are both out there 90% of the time.
The immediate concern is injury. What if QB2 gets hurt because he's out there rather than on the sideline. Well, it's bound to happen eventually as we've seen the last several years, why not get as much playing time and contribution out of 2 high level talents rather than have one spend half the season on the sideline. Also, using 2 QBs and a RB relieves a lot of the hits on the primary (QB1) that will not be running as much as they do in the current system.
For next season, Thompson would be the under center QB most of the time with Delton lining up in the backfield with or without a RB. He could also be split out as a flanker or in the slot at times. Other times, Delton would be under center with Thompson split out (Wildcat). There would be a ton of potential for double passes regularly (not just trick plays) or simply working on getting Delton open in space to use his speed an elusiveness.
One issue might be relying on Delton to pass block as a RB might, but in these cases I could see using him as a WR and have your primary RB (Barnes, Warmack, McCoy (hopefully) in to pass block.
I think this would add an exciting new dynamic to the Wildcats and could help propel CK as the hottest, new OC in college football once it gets fine tuned. QB recruits would take notice and would love to be a part of something so new and different.
If nothing else, it would sure provide something fresh to look forward to next season in an otherwise stale state of affairs.
