DIDN’T START SLOW
I observed during the pre-game routine that assistant coaches Scottie Hazelton and Conor Riley were much more animated than they were in week one. I think it pertained to something that head coach Chris Klieman mentioned briefly earlier in the week, that they were weary as a staff to not respond well to the immediate success and bouncing back with enough energy for an 11 a.m. kickoff.

Well, perhaps it is because they were attentive to the possibility, but that was never a problem. Kansas State jumped on Bowling Green from the jump and had very little issues disposing of the Falcons. It showed a great amount of maturity for them to waste no time in putting their foot on the threat of the opponent in week two, a week following the immediate success, in a duller environment and one just before their premiere non-conference showdown with Mississippi State.

MANY MORE FRESHMEN
It was true freshmen galore on Saturday inside Bill Snyder Family Stadium. On offense, we saw Jax Dineen, Joshua Youngblood, Joe Ervin, Jacardia Wright, Cooper Beebe and Chris Herron. On defense, we saw Khalid Duke, Levi Archer, Logan Wilson, Tyrone Lewis and Will Jones. Of course, most of the action from Archer, Wilson, Lewis and Jones came on the special teams side of things until the fourth quarter.

For those counting at home, 11 true freshmen saw the field today.

NOT AS MUCH PERSONNEL SHUFFLING
The line changes were not as aggressive in game two as they were in game one. For example, Dalton Schoen and Malik Knowles saw a larger chunk of action, Phillip Brooks only saw two plays with the first unit and Landry Weber did not play with the starters at all against Bowling Green.

Additionally, Joshua Youngblood only saw five snaps with the starters.

With that being said, Jax Dineen, Chabastin Taylor and Wykeen Gill played more. Gill played a lot of snaps with the ones compared to the season-opener and some of that may have to do with him being healthier.

MINDFUL OF INJURIES
It’ll be interesting to see what head coach Chris Klieman has to say about some of the injuries on the defensive side of the ball. Hopefully, in the case of Wyatt Hubert, it is more precautionary than anything. However, he left the game in the first half with an issue and did not return. Walter Neil also left the field in the second quarter with an apparent injury and did not return.

Furthermore, linebacker Cody Fletcher and nickelback Johnathan Durham did not play as originally hoped. Durham was on the field in street clothes while Fletcher was not seen anywhere.

While the offense has stayed fresh and relatively healthy, the same cannot be said for the defense.

The final injury to speak about happened to punter Devin Anctil in the third quarter. He had to be helped off the field by trainers. That would be a loss if he has to miss any kind of time this season. Fortunately, he did return to punt again later in the game, albeit a poor punt.
