In an odd turn of events given what pretty much the entire West has done, New Zealand is sitting on the sidelines with respect to leveling sanctions on Russia. Not because they wouldn't like to, but because their current laws prohibit sanctions not levied by the UN. Important to note, the UN can't levy any sanctions on Russia, because as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, they can veto any move that body makes.

The worry is that New Zealand becomes a back door for Russian Oligarchs park assets. New Zealand has always been a bit "odd", but this is a pretty weird story.
