I was just looking over the Knight Commission Data from the AAC, ACC, B12, MWC, and Pac 12.

The Knight Commission Database provides information on the sources and uses of funds in FBS athletic departments.

For many of the G5 conferences the schools and students are the primary sources of athletic department finances. In 2020 in the AAC and MWC the schools and students together contributed an average of $27.6 Million to help fund the athletic department. On average, this accounted for a little over half (51%) of the athletic department budgets of these schools.

School and student support is not just a G5 phenomenon. It was common in the public schools of both the Pac 12 and ACC. On average the students and schools combined to contribute about $10 Million ($9.99M) per school in these conferences during 2020.

Having schools and students pay to help support the athletic department is uncommon in the Big 12. At K-State the Athletic Department is completely "self sustaining" with no direct school/student financial support. With the conference realignment that is about to happen and the anticipated gap that is going to develop between the haves and have nots, would it make sense for the school and students to start paying to help Athletics keep up? How Much ($10 Million like Pac and ACC // $25 Million like most G5s)?
