The NCAA announced a “Targeting Rule Change,” for this upcoming season, but it’s definitely more of an adjustment than a major change to the actual rule. It allows conferences to petition the NCAA if a Targeting occurs in the 2nd half, which would allow the NCAA to overturn the ruling and allow the play to play the entire next game.
I’m glad they are addressing the rule, but I hope that they spend more time next offseason on the administration of the rule on the field and also eliminate the suspension of half of the next game if it occurs in the 2nd half. I also wonder how often the NCAA will overturn these rulings? I’m guessing not often…because it’s the NCAA.
