I'm sure some wise man once declaimed that two full (neat) glasses of Talisker disqualifies one from any attempt at public discourse, but here goes anyway.

My renewal date looms at month's end, and I'll not be raising my right hand as it is well nigh time for a 70-year-old guy with a book to finish to move on. Also, this nearby blond chick--a lot younger--wants to travel, and it is a fact we men all do what we can to keep our women happy, do we not? (Or, we are fools, if we don't.)

I came to Kansas State straight from hard duty in Vietnam, I-Corps, and upon arrival on campus in 1967, it seemed like this large, warm blanket settled over me, and I was indeed back home, at last. Two lamented professors, in particular, looked after me like sharp-eyed tigers, without appearing they were doing so, and Michael Suleiman and Louis Douglas will always remain centered in my life as two real men who cared to help out one who clearly required their mentorship. All honor to their memories!

And today when East-Coast friends ask why I so avidly care about a school that I have not visited in many years, my response is actually very simple. "That little school saved my life." It's as simple as that.

So, I will miss you guys, but Oldfella would agree with me, I think, that a new generation is capable of carrying forth our proud tradition.. But he would hope, as do I, that you would try as best you can to keep it civil and not so easily attack one another. We all care about our school and its teams, and you must concur that it is--after all--so easy to loathe KU. (And not each other.)

After graduating, I went into the FBI and had a great career.. If you have seen the movie, "Casino," just let me immodestly offer, a), it is a true story (mostly); and b), Kansas State had a little bit to do with that successful prosecution. (And Sharon Stone is in fact the "Cat's Meow.")

The moniker, "brandybud," comes from a side bar avocation as one who works to preserve Civil War battlefields. And Brandy Station, America's largest cavalry battlefield, is now largely preserved--thanks to the hard work of many conscientious Americans.

Lastly, a tip of the hat to Hatter and Koppe, my two favorite posters, but for different reasons. The first, coldly analytical and is solely dedicated to K-State; the second, brilliant, in a Strangelovian way. And considering we all should appreciate real characters, Koppe is to be appreciated as an original character--if not always "proper."

I can be reached, if desired, at ClarkBHall@aol.com

Best to you all..

GO CATS!!
