For the past five weeks I have spent attending & working football coaching clinics in five states. During that grind to satisfy my curiousity I asked several D-1 coaches from multiple conferences if there any news to a coaching change in Manhattan through either process (HCIW, abrupt change)? The consensus opinion was the successor was already in the facility. No mention of Veneables whatsoever. I'm not stipulating that potential talks did or didn't take place and several coaches shared their perspective that Coach Veneables would take that job. a couple of the coaches were outta work and had every connection in the free world looking for potential openings and had heard nothing. At this point on the calendar most of minutes of spring practices have been meticulously planned out so coaching changes would have most likely occurred. Speculation from this group was a resignation and interim coach could happen in August if a plan to give Sean a chance was to occur.
Two stories on recruiting that I would like to share. It's been mentioned by numerous times that ALL OF OUR COACHES SUCK AT RECRUITING. I am fully cognizant that my sharing these two stories will not change there perspectives.
1. A coach from the SEC shared a perspective on recruiting. He could bust his ass getting in the door and establishing the initial relationship. Nick Saban & Jim Harbaugh have changed the game. There target guys are getting there phone blown up by the head guy and the lead assistant recruiter. This assistant had the unfortunate task of busting his ass and getting ripped because the recruit stipulated that X university wasn't contacting him like the rest. It's an interesting concept because I'm sure shady Briles is doing that but not so sure what degree Gary Patterson would do this because of the arrogance and entitlement of these youngsters. At any rate that leads me to my second story.
Know a coach that was on the same staffs of Nick Lecky and Shackleford and he said that K-State did a fantastic job recruiting them both. Really felt like Shack would have fit in great with K-State because of the system. It's a dream in Texas to get the calling to play for the University of Texas. Shack agonized over telling Snyder FOR DAYS that he was going to stay forty-five minutes from home and play for his state school. I know Wallace has a job to do and is only input is usually from the player himself. High school coaches from all over greatly respect the program in multiple facets.
1. There players are gonna leave as fine young men that will even go to the length of leaving a hand written note that expresses there appreciation for a maid cleaning their hotel room.
2. They are gonna be fundamentally sound and reach there potential.
3. If a walk-on can start they realize that the best players are gonna reach the field and graduate.
Just a few perspectives gained the last five weeks.
