Wildcats beat Texas Tech 65-53...Here's a brief breakdown..
Total Team Effort
For the first time in a long time, the Wildcats weren't carried by one or two players as the entire lineup made key contributions 11 out of 12 players scored. From the start, they set the pace and had Texas Tech back on their heels, I'd like to see more of this as they've shown that they can put a scare into teams early especially in their last two contests.
Lewis is starting to come into her own, look out.
Standing at 6-5 almost 6-6, Breanna Lewis is starting to hit her stride just at the right time. The shot selection is getting better but there are still some scratch your head moments on some plays. Still, her biggest improvement has been from the free throw line, she's gained more chances at the line down the stretch and with that she's shown major improvement going 6-10 from the line, the second time she's done that in five games. If the wildcats want to go dancing, they'll need this production from her down the stretch.
Needed bench production
The bench that I've raved about for so long struggled a bit down the stretch and Texas Tech closed the 22 point gap in the 4th quarter. Even with that last quarter the bench did well in some areas, Kayla Goth continues to emerge as one of the key players to come off the bench (leading the team in rebounds) and she will be needed down the stretch if Deines or Martin get into foul trouble. The next three contests I'd like to see Goth, Taylor, Craig and Sheble help maintain or raise the Wildcats level of play.
Look for more Analysis come Monday/Tuesday as I assess the wildcats chances run at the NCAA Tournament.
